What is the difference between meditation and mindfulness? Is mindfulness just meditation in disguise?

The difference is very subtle. mindfulness is actually a form of meditation. When you are practicing mindfulness you are actually using a modern form of meditation, developed to make meditation easier and more accessible to normal people.

So just like running or swimming is a form of exercise, Mindfulness is a form of meditation.

But meditation is different!

This is where it gets a little confusing because to be mindful really has nothing to do with meditating at all.

To be mindful just means to be aware of your thoughts and be mindful of whats going on. You can be mindful in any situation, you don’t have to be meditating….But then if you are practicing the mindfulness techniques for 10 minutes a day then you are actually meditating.

Its a very subtle difference but the word meditation covers lots of different techniques and mindfulness can be considered one of the techniques given the methods that are used.


So in conclusion mindfulness is a form of meditation when practiced using the proven techniques….Otherwise just being mindful, is not meditation.
