Meditation Techniques For Beginners – 2 Really Easy Meditation Techniques

Are you looking for meditation techniques for beginners? If you haven’t tried meditation before you might think that its some kind of mythical brain trick that only the gifted can do. Or maybe you think meditation is a load of mumbo jumbo that does nothing but waste your time.

Whichever side of the fence you sit, i’m going to show you three ways you can try meditation for yourself. Its not complicated, these are meditation techniques for beginners that anyone can try at home. But first…

Whats the point of Mediation?

Meditation has been used through the ages to calm the mind, to focus and to try and get some kind of insight. You are probably looking to find a way to relax maybe or to stop your mind from racing.

Mediation is a great way to relax and focus your mind. A good way to stop your mind from racing and clear away some of that chatter.

What to expect from Meditation

Don’t expect miracles!

Meditation takes practice….Lots of practice, so don’t give up after the first attempt. And don’t expect to be taken on a weird hallucinogenic trip. Buddhist monks meditate to try and become enlightened, they practice for years.

5 minutes meditation after work isn’t going to bring you Buddhist enlightenment, but it will bring you some major benefits. Meditation can bring you:

  • Better focus
  • Calmer outlook
  • Clearer mind
  • Better understanding

So stick with it, give it a chance and you will notice differences in your perception and attitude.

Easy mediation techniques for beginners

Firstly, the point of meditation is to clear you mind and focus on this moment in time. The idea is to calm your mind and focus on one thing. The past and the future don’t exist while you are meditating.

Its amazing how difficult it actually is to think of only one thing. Luckily there are tested ways to meditate.

Watch the breath

Possibly the easiest way to meditate is to watch the breath. Sit comfortably, close your eyes and breath deeply but normally and slowly. The aim is to concentrate on your breath only.

So that’s what you need to do. Breath in through your nose and out through your mouth, and concentrate on whats going on with your breath only….How it feels, how it sounds, whats happening in your body. Other thoughts will come into you head as you try to concentrate on your breath, just let them come and go, don’t react to them and just bring your attention back to your breath.

No need to try and control your breath, just concentrate on it.

Mantra meditation

Again the aim is to focus the mind on one thing. Once your brain is trained to focus the theory is that it becomes easier and easier to focus on anything and clearer thought patterns are possible, without all the clutter. Sit comfortably with your eyes closed again.

Mantra meditation is the choice method of lots of monks around the world. You choose a word or saying and repeat it over and over, concentrating only on that word or phrase. Focusing on the single mantra will help you meditate and bring calm, clarity and serenity to your busy mind.

Guided meditation

If it actually seems to difficult to meditate with these methods, you could try guided meditation. Videos and audio guides are available that guide you through the meditation process and show you exactly how to meditate.
